Free Microsoft Office

Western Sydney University, in collaboration with Microsoft, is offering all students the 'Student Advantage' - free Microsoft Office on up to five devices.

New Student Advantage features

A number of new applications are now available within the Student Advantage (Office 365) portal. You can now access Word Online, Excel Online, PowerPoint Online and OneDrive. This means you can work on documents, spreadsheets and presentations online, without needing Microsoft Office installed on your device. You can also save your data ((documents, spreadsheets, presentations)) into your student OneDrive storage so you can access it whenever and wherever you choose.

Please note, OneDrive is only available to enrolled students, so if you are graduating or your enrolment status is going to change, please copy your documents to your own device or computer or you will lose access to them.

  • Software for specific use on the WSU network is to be removed after leaving the University. Office 365 Software Subscription This subscription to software is active as long as you are an enrolled student or active employee. For students, the subscription starts the first day of the first semester they are enrolled in class.
  • New Teams service for WSU. Microsoft Teams offers a modern group workspace within Office 365 that includes tools and content targeted for teams of people working towards a common goal or purpose. Teams brings together a collaborative workspace, file management, project and task tools, persistent chat (IM), and a new type of online meeting space.
  • How to set up your WSU email account: Go to the website office365.wsu.edu. Login on the WSU Sign In Page with your Network ID and Password (same as myWSU Login) On the Office 365 Landing Page, click the ‘Mail’ Icon.

Compatible devices

Scheduling Tutorials: OFFICE365 Scheduling of School of Music classrooms, rehearsal spaces and concert halls is all available online via Outlook Desktop or Office365. Access to the room calendars follows a different process, but all calendars will be available in your Outlook Calendar View.

How to download

The Student Advantage download is around 1GB, depending on the device being used. If downloading Student Advantage on the University wireless network, please try to avoid the peak periods (10am-4pm) to avoid the potential of extended download times. You can also download the software on any network, including home broadband and your mobile phone carrier, however please make sure you have an adequate data plan.

How to install Office 365 on a PC

  1. Open a web browser, go to office365.wsu.edu.
  2. Login with your WSU Network ID and Password.
  3. Once logged in, click on Install Office at the top right.
  4. Click on Run on the setup file. And then Yes when Windows asks if you want to make changes to the computer.
  5. Office will then install on your computer

How to install Office 365 on a Mac

Email Wsu Office 365

  1. Open a web browser, go to office365.wsu.edu.
  2. Login with your WSU Network ID and Password.
  3. Once logged in, click on Install Office at the top right and select the option to download Office applications.
  4. Open the download Office install file to begin the installation.
  5. Click Agree for the Software License.
  6. Click Install. The Office suite of applications will now be available in your list of applications on your Mac.
